Mihrimah Sultan Mosque

The Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, also known as Mihrimah Sultan Camii, was built in the 16th century in the historic Edirnekapı district of Istanbul. It is located on top of the Sixth Hill, making it one of the highest points in the city. This mosque is a prime example of medieval architecture and a symbol of the Ottoman Empire's capital.

The mosque was built by the great architect Mimar Sinan specifically for Mihrimah, the daughter of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The construction of the building took only four years, from 1562 to 1565. Throughout history, the mosque has suffered damage from earthquakes several times, including in 1719, 1766, and 1814. In 1894, the minaret collapsed and pierced the roof due to an earthquake, and in 1999, the dome and minaret were damaged as a result of the İzmit earthquake.
