Edirnekapı Cemetery

The Edirnekapı Martyrs' Cemetery is a sacred site where many Muslim soldiers who were wounded in various wars, including the Balkan Wars, World War I, and especially the Gallipoli battles, are buried. They were brought to Istanbul hospitals for treatment, where they died, achieving martyr status. The cemetery consists of two parts: Edirnekapı and Sakızağacı. Warriors from the Ottoman-Russian War, participants of the Balkan Wars, as well as soldiers from the land, sea, and air forces, police officers, and employees of T.H.Y. airline are buried here. The martyrs' cemeteries have separate sections for civilian martyrs, firefighters, old soldiers, disabled individuals, and veterans. It is a well-maintained and respected place where the memory of the fallen is honored.
