Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church. The Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator in Galata is the oldest Armenian Apostolic Church in Istanbul, Turkey. It was built in the late 14th century during the Genoese influence, shortly before the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman conquerors. Located in the Galata (Karaköy) district, this church is the only one in the city built in the traditional Armenian style with a dome and a conical roof. In 1886, the Getronagan Armenian High School was founded next to the church.
