Shymbulak Mountain Resort

Shymbulak lies in the Trans-Ili Alatau, only about an hour from Almaty but feeling like a separate world. The resort begins at 2,260 meters and rises toward Talgar Pass at 3,180 meters. Winter revolves around snow: the season lasts from mid-November to April, with the busiest pistes in December and January. Slopes are linked by several types of lifts, from conveyor belts to gondola-chair systems. Equipment rental, cafés, and restaurants are available. Away from skiing, visitors can choose horseback riding, rope courses, paragliding, or mountain hiking. Accommodation is available both at the resort and nearby in hotels and guesthouses.

Shymbulak also has a record-breaking history. In 2023, it entered Guinness World Records as the world’s highest-altitude night ski slope. In the 2024/2025 season, it was recognized as the best ski complex in the CIS at the Ski Business Awards, confirming that these mountains impress through more than scenery alone.
