Monument Cistern Aspar

The Cistern of Aspar, also known as the Sarcophagus of Aspar, was built in the 5th century in Constantinople by the Gothic commander named Aspar, who served the Byzantine Emperor Leo I. This ancient open-type reservoir was used for collecting and storing water for many years. It is believed that the cistern was one of the important engineering structures of that time and had significant importance for the inhabitants of Constantinople.
