Batumi Botanical Garden lies nine kilometers from Batumi near Green Cape railway station, forming a vast green oasis at the city's edge. Russian botanist Andrei Krasnov founded it in 1880 as a laboratory for acclimatizing subtropical plants and introducing valuable crops to the southern Russian Empire. Officially opened in 1912, it now contains more than 5,000 plant species and forms, including rare trees, shrubs, camellias, roses, and citrus. The garden is divided into upper, central, and lower zones containing nine geographical collections, from the Himalayas and Australia to South America and the humid subtropics of Transcaucasia. Research departments study plant introduction, breeding, and physiology, supported by a rich herbarium and library. For visitors, it is both a walk among exotic plants and a living museum where science and beauty meet.

The garden is called the Green Amphitheater because its terraced slopes resemble the steps of an ancient theater, and the green lungs of Batumi because it brings freshness and calm to the city. Rare and endangered plants from around the world grow here, including species listed in Red Data Books, making every part of the garden a reminder of the need to protect nature.
