Fenari Isa Mosque

The Fenari Isa Mosque is a women's monastery founded around 908 in Constantinople by Constantine Lips, who was known as a drungarius. After the founding of the monastery, a small cathedral church measuring 13 by 9.5 meters was built here. The church had a polygonal central apse and two tiers of windows - triple on the bottom and slit-like above. The temple's architecture was inspired by the katholikon of Myrelaion. The cathedral housed relics, including the stone pillars of the Apostle Paul and the gold-encrusted head of the Apostle Philip, until it was plundered by the Crusaders in 1204.
