Gül Mosque

Gül Mosque (Gül Camii) is a former Orthodox church that was converted into a mosque in the Fatih district of Istanbul, near the ancient Ayakapı gate. It is one of the most significant Byzantine cross-in-square buildings in the city. In the 16th century, the building was used as the cathedral of the convent of Saint Theodosia. Recently, there have been suggestions that the church may be associated with the male monastery of Christ the Benefactor (Greek: Μονή του Χριστού του Ευεργέτου), which was also located in the area.
