Handan Aga Mosque

Handan Aga Mosque, also known as Kushkonmaz or "The Mosque Where Birds Do Not Perch," is situated near the Golden Horn in the Hasköy neighborhood of Beyoğlu, Istanbul, Turkey. This historic place of worship was constructed in the 15th century by the order of a close advisor to Sultan Mehmed II, named Handan Aga.

The mosque's interior is adorned with exquisite tilework from the 16th and 17th centuries, along with some examples of 19th-century maiolica. Interestingly, the mosque's basement was previously used as a boatyard, but the coastline was later filled in for land reclamation.

Over the centuries, Handan Aga Mosque has undergone several restorations—in the 18th-19th centuries and in the 1960s—to preserve its beauty and historical significance for the local community.
