Jihangir Mosque

The mosque in the Jihangir neighborhood of the Beyoğlu district in the European part of Istanbul was destroyed by fire. By order of Sultan Abdulaziz, architect Sarkis Balyan built a new mosque in the neoclassical style on the site of the destroyed one. The new building became a symbol of revival and restoration after the tragic event.
