Mayraberd Fortress. The Askeran Fortress, also known as Mayraberd, is a historical site on the southern outskirts of the settlement of Askeran in the Khojaly district of Azerbaijan. Located on both banks of the Karkar River, the fortress is on the way to Aghdam and is surrounded by wooded areas. In the Middle Ages, a fortress and an Armenian settlement called Mayraberd existed at this location.
