Mevlevi Monastery. Mevlevi (Mevleviya, Mawlawiyya; Persian and Ottoman Molviyeh, modern Turkish Mevlevîlik) is a Sufi order that was founded in the 13th century in the Sultanate of Rum by the Seljuks. This order is based on the teachings and veneration of the Persian poet and mystic Maulana Jalal ad-Din Rumi. In Mevlevi, great attention is paid to music, singing, and dancing during ceremonies (sama) and collective dhikr, which is why it is also called the "brotherhood of the whirling dervishes".
