Rumelian Fortress. A historic lighthouse, still in use for navigation, is located on the European shore at the entrance to the Black Sea through the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul. Rumeli (or Rumelia) is the former name for the Ottoman Empire's territories west of the Bosphorus Strait. The lighthouse was named after this region due to its similarity to another lighthouse, Anadolu Feneri, which is located parallel on the eastern shore of the Bosphorus Strait.
