Surb Harutyun Church

Surb Harutyun Church is a historical building belonging to the Armenian Apostolic Church, located in the southwestern part of the Hadrut region of the Republic of Artsakh. This church was built in ancient times and served as a place of worship for local residents. Before the war, it was in excellent condition and continued to function as an active church.

However, after the city of Hadrut was captured by Azerbaijan in October 2020, the church suffered from vandalism. Inscriptions made with paint were found on the walls of the building, and some tombstones in the courtyard were destroyed. The cross was removed from the bell tower's dome, causing grief among believers.

These actions have caused outrage in the local community and raised concerns among human rights defenders. Despite this, local residents continue to hope for the restoration of the church and its return to its former noble appearance.
