Atik Valide Mosque

Atik Valide Mosque, also known as Eski Valide Camii, was built in the 16th century on a hill in Uskudar, Istanbul. This mosque was built specifically for Nurbanu Sultan, the wife of Sultan Selim II, and was part of a large complex that included a madrasa, guest rooms, and a caravanserai. The architect of this magnificent structure was Mimar Sinan. Construction of the mosque began in 1571, and it was initially small with a single minaret. However, it was not until 1586, three years after Nurbanu Sultan's death, that the mosque was expanded and completed.
