Atskuri Fortress

Atskuri, also known as "Attsuri", is an ancient Georgian feudal fortress located on the right bank of the Mtkvari (Kura) River in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region, approximately 30 kilometers from the city of Borjomi. Built in the 9th century, Atskuri Fortress played an important role in the defense of Georgia in the Middle Ages.

The fortress is situated on top of a high cliff and occupies a vast territory consisting of several parts, with a citadel at the highest point. Within the fortress, one can see the ruins of an ancient church with remnants of frescoes, testifying to the rich history of this place. There is also a water tunnel within the fortress that connects it to the river, providing the fortress inhabitants with access to water.
