Beylerbeyi Mosque

Beylerbeyi Mosque, also known as Hamidi-i-Evvel Mosque, is located in the Beylerbeyi district of Istanbul on 18th Street. This magnificent structure was built centuries ago and is one of the most beautiful Yalı mosques in the city. The mosque was erected on the site of the former cell of Cardigan-i-Sharif of Beylerbeyi Palace in honor of Sultan I. It was built by order of Abdul Hamid II in memory of his mother Rabia Sermi Sultan and opened for worship on August 15, 1778. This building is considered a natural continuation of the complex built by the Sultan in Bahçekapı.
