Italian Synagogue. The founding of this synagogue in 1887 is linked to conflicts between representatives of the Jewish and Italian communities in the mid-19th century. In 1866, Sultan Abdulaziz gifted land in Galata to Italian Jews at the request of the Italian government, which initiated the construction of the current synagogue. Until the 1960s, the section of Ziya Pasha Street where the synagogue is located was known as "Jewish Hill" due to the large number of Jews residing there.
