Arab Mosque in Istanbul. The Church of St. Paul was built in 1233 in Galata, a suburb of Constantinople. It differed from other buildings by its square bell tower, which resembled the Gothic churches of Italy. For many centuries, the church was owned by Genoese merchants, many of whom were buried in the crypt. In 1407, it was restored thanks to the financial assistance of the Pope. In 1475, it was converted into a mosque without architectural changes, and in 1492, it was handed over to the Moors expelled from Spain....
