Greek Orthodox Church of Saint Nicholas

The Ayia Nikola Church in Yenikoy was destroyed in the mid-17th century for an unknown reason, according to church archival documents and holy relics. In 1938, Sultan Mahmud II issued a decree for the construction of a new church in a different location. It is believed that the church was originally located where the Yenikoy-Yeni Mosque stands today, where Greeks from the Aegean region lived in the past during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. In the northeast of the courtyard is the grave of the renowned professor of the Istanbul School of Medicine, Konstantinos Karatheodori, who was the personal physician to Sultans Mahmud II and Abdülmecid. The mausoleum of the Mavrogordato family, a well-known banker and philanthropist merchant from Trabzon, is also located here.
