Karacaahmet Cemetery

Karacaahmet Cemetery, also known as Karacaahmet Mezarlığı in Turkish, is a historical site that is over 700 years old. It is located in the Uskudar district on the Asian side of Istanbul. It is the oldest and largest cemetery in the city, covering an area of 750 acres (3.0 km2), and is the largest cemetery in Turkey by number of burials.

The cemetery was named after Orhan, a warrior companion of the second Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, and is believed to have been founded in the mid-14th century. The cemetery grounds are home to a wide variety of plant species and numerous bird species. Here you can see cypresses, plane trees, oaks, laurels, blackberries, and other plants, creating the impression of a real forest. The burial sites are covered with tall cypresses, creating a special atmosphere of peace and tranquility.
